THE YORKSHIRE DALES
This is a picture of the Yorkshire Dales, which is the home of English Mohair. If you have a bear made from English mohair, you can virtually guarantee that the fabric was woven at Norton mill, in the village of Scissett, near Huddersfield in Yorkshire. Mohair is a unique natural fibre with a durable, strong, silky texture, and is made from the fleece of the Angora goat. The goats are sheared at least twice a year, in a similar way to shearing sheep (no harm is done to the animal). The yarn used to produce teddy bear "fur" is spun from the fleeces of young goats. The fabric is usually dyed, but sometimes it is used in its natural colour. It is then finished using a variety of processes to produce the different types of teddy bear "furs" with which we are now familiar. |
