About

Welcome to the world of Gold Teddy by Joan Shaw. For fifteen years I have been creating highly collectible handmade bears from Yorkshire, the home of British mohair. Each Bear is made entirely by hand by me in the classic Edwardian style using exclusive designs and only the very best materials, sourced from around the world.

Only the finest mohairs and alpacas are used in Gold Teddy by Joan Shaw bears; Schulte & Hembold provide the bulk of my luxurious mohairs, though I also use some mohair sourced from South Africa. In addition to this I also create unique characters using sassy silks, velvets and cashmere from the United States, a variety of silk fabrics from Japan and British ultra suede. Maintaining to the true Edwardian style of my bears, I also use five way hardboard cotter pin joints and English black glass eyes, so you can be sure of the authenticity and quality of my designs.

Uniqueness and individuality is my aim, and all of my bears are entirely original, exclusive one off creations. However, two things remain the same throughout: All my bears are reminiscent of the original Edwardian style with humped backs, and long arms, and all bears are made to the highest standard of craftsmanship. All my bears also come with certificates of authenticity and sew in tags.

I have over fifteen years of dedication to the craft of bear-making and your guarantee when you purchase a bear from Gold Teddy by Joan Shaw is that you are investing in a truly endearing piece of art that you will proudly pass down to future generations. All my bears are beautifully gift boxed by hand entirely free of charge.

My bears have found homes all across the world, including Japan, the United States, Germany, France, Holland, Ireland, Austria, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand. My black bears are on display in the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, and my fairy tale bears (called Hansel & Gretal) are on permanent exhibitor in the Museum of Childhood in Stow.

My range of exclusive bears can also be found in specialist shops throughout the country, including Sue Pearson Bears & Bygones in Lewes and in Teddy Bears of Whitney in Oxfordshire. I have also been featured in Teddy Bear Times magazine and Teddy Bear Club International. I also work in collaboration with the artist Lynnette Weaver, who has painted portraits of several of my bears.
